The Sanday Development Trust
The Community Support Fund launched on the 30th March and is for those who have lost income due to the Coronavirus crisis.
The fund is open only to permanent Sanday residents in need of immediate support, such as self-employed tradespeople, people on zero-hours contracts and people who have had to stop work to provide childcare because of the current restrictions.
Each household is entitled to receive up to £10 per member, per week towards food and general provisions (the stores will advise on what is considered essential). All you need to do when in the shop or placing an order for delivery is simply to ask for the community fund to be applied to your order. Please follow the process, opening hours, etc., each particular store is operating
Orkney Island Council
Orkney Islands Council is accepting applications for welfare benefits via two funding streams – Crisis Grants and Community Care Grants. A reduction in Council Tax can also be applied for.
The grants are for those on benefits or low incomes who have fallen on hard times.
If you qualify for a grant, the help you receive will depend on the particular difficulties you face. You may be given money or another form of support, for example, a voucher, fuel card, travel ticket or furniture.
To find out if you are eligible and to make an application, you should call the Council’s Scottish Welfare Fund team on 01856 886312 or via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
A funding mechanism has been established by Orkney Islands Council to support isles residents in buying goods from the isles shops.
With internal ferry travel restrictions currently in place due to Covid-19, isles residents are mainly reliant on island-based shops for their shopping rather than mainland supermarkets – where prices may be cheaper.
The scheme will see each isles resident allocated £5 per week for the next four weeks to spend in a shop on their island – with the fund administered with support from the local community council.
For those islands without shops, the fund will be paid directly to the families on the island.
Funding will be available from Monday (20 April). Queries on the fund should be emailed to email@example.com
